Ok, I think get the ideas. First I register a good domain that others may be interested, then I start developing the domain by building backlinks and Google PR and finally sell on Digitalpoint. It is a good idea to make money. I think i'm going to invest some money in this business.

Re: Whois tools

Not pointing the finger at any particular website, but suffice to say that *some* whois places are less ethical than others, and track what people enter for their own use. I don't want to counter any of your great advice, but *my* general rule is if I find that something great is available now, I register it now, and ask questions later. I've been burned in the past; now I just act.

Your first piece advice is golden. The minute I found out the Zune's name was going to be Zune, I scored www.microsoftzune.com. Now will I ever be able to use it (and make some type of profit), probably not but I scored something nice. I also had the opportunity to register many Wii.com domain names however I think I was broke at the time so I ended up not doing so.

Really interesting post. I am starting to buy domain names just for the purpose of reselling . Decided to do it after I found out that all names I liked were taken up and people were just sitting on it waiting for a buyer to come along.

[...] You might remember that I explored a method for capturing hot technology related names through scouring Digg in my Little Known Ways Of Registering Valuable Domains article. The principle was simple, I simply scanned through the Upcoming Stories page on Digg until I came across a newish sounding technology, entered the name into a domain search tool and prayed that all of the TLD’s were available. As you can imagine this was very rarely the case and I’d usually give up after 10 or so names. Now, I tried something slightly different yesterday afternoon. I came across this story on Digg regarding the availability of WUSB (Wireless USB) in the new Nokia phones. Immediately I searched for the availability of wusb in all domain extensions followed up by wirelessusb. No joy. Then it came to me, if WUSB is adopted in any major way related names will be valuable too giving time. Now the problem was, how would I go about deciding which related domains to choose. Easy. Wordtracker. [...]

Great post :)

It's not often I'll chance across a blog and read a post of this length the whole way through.

All the best for 2007.
