Signed up as a Text Link Ads publisher.

Why the hell didn’t I think of this before? According to the most conservative of estimates My Kewl Space stands to earn a small fortune compared to what I was initally expecting. I’ve placed another batch of ads on one of my old blogs that I no longer update too. I am excited about this. It’ll help keep things moving along smoothly in the next few months and with a bit of luck it might even fuel a few more site purchases.

Checked my bank balance for the first time in ages yesterday and it makes depressing reading. I can’t buy any new sites until I sell a few old ones. Drat.

Hurrah though for Text Link Ads, I’ll keep you posted on any links that come through in the next few days.

Bringing A Little Order To Forums

by Matt on , under Uncategorized

I went a little crazy on Monday and created about 20 new forums on Implicit Gaming which I have since deleted as they weren’t popular at all. I’m trying to flatten everything down as much as possible just in case people believe that the boards have turned into tumble weed central!

I didn’t get a game completed tonight for My Kewl Space, I just didn’t have any ideas. Besides I was watching the Newcastle v Birmingham F.A. Cup Replay which was a shocker. 5-1 to the away side! Who would have thought it?

I regret buying chatpsp.com now as I don’t have the time to run it properly which is a damn shame as it’s a cool enough community and it deserves more attention. I’ll try to get a new owner tomorrow who can take it in the right direction. The worst thing about forums is your sense of responsibility to the people who help run it. With a static website it’s different – you normally just have one person regularly contributing. But with communities people are actually investing their time in building something that’ll benefit everyone. I’m thinking too much about this!

Other than that I don’t have much else to report. Gonna head off to bed now, I’ve been going too late these days and waking up semi-exhausted which is probably why my ideas aren’t that inspiring recently…….

Actually ignore that last comment, I created this as linkbait for the Impliciit Gaming forums. The people on Reddit didn’t really vouch for it though ;)

Spider Activity from Googlebot and Slurp on My Kewl Space

by Matt on , under Web Development

It’s good to see that after only two days the amount of spider activity on My Kewl Space has been quite high. Adsense performance has been pretty dismal though mainly because of seriously poor CPC rates.

crawling.jpg

To combat this my aim is to update the site every night with at least one unique “toy”. For those of you who are interested here is the crazy blog dog script I created. It’s very basic but it’s quite fun. I want to continue adding similar tools – the more surreal the better!

It’ll be interesting to see how the site performs for the keywords I targetted in Google. By far the most popular phrase that we rank for is “Myspace tools” and that’s bringing in about 30 uniques a day. It would be cool to rank for a wide range of terms as the site progresses. Wordpress will definitely be my friend here.

Oh and forgot completely about this! I should really create a Myspace “My Kewl Space” profile, it will act as the perfect podium to display the new scripts that I’ve created.

I’ll get on the case right away. I’ll need to get Wordtrackering too to find more suitable keyphrases for the site.

Targets with MyKewlSpace.com

by Matt on , under My Earnings

I know this is a bit ambitious but by mid February I want to be making $10 a day with MyKewlSpace. My aim is to make at least double the amount of money I was making earlier this month $8-10, by March.

Spent a while last night redesigning My Kewl Space and I’m pleased with how it looks. It needs better categorisation if I’m to expand it in a major way. I’ll have to see which Myspace-related terms are popular in Wordtracker first though. This is the fun part. I’m delighted that My Kewl Space is out of the Google Trustbox which means it’s ranking well for some crazily popular phrases.

I think the best way to expand MyKewlSpace is to make fun little add-ons that relate to current events. Basing something on the Borat movie might be a good idea. I’ll have a peep over at IMDB to see what other movies are coming out. The best way forward is to design things that are fun to create and use.

I’m also gonna use the Crazy Blog Dog meme that I created for Livejournal for the site. It should be popular enough. I’m worried though that if one of the addons becomes overly popular it might send my webserver down. I’m getting ahead of myself again here! All I can do is release it and see how it goes.

The post rate at Implicitgaming is continuing to increase slowly after a massive crash. The Adsense ads are performing very well too.

Hiring Forum Posters to Liven Up A Site?

by Matt on , under Web Development

I’ve considered this in the past and I haven’t adopted it up to now because of the following reasons.

  • Forums are built around the formative members. Paid forum posters will come and go whilst your regulars will stay. It’s important to tempt people who have an interest in your forum as they will help the site survive it’s darkest hours.
  • I’ve always been concerned about the quality of the contributions by paid posters and for that reason I think I’ll always consider PPC before I resort to using forum posters. With PPC the users you attract to your site will be more targetted especially if you target keyphrases like “webmaster chat” or “webmaster forum”.
  • Paid posters aren’t likely to refer a friend. Even if they do, they’ll probably be looking for payment too.
  • If natural members of your forum find out you’ve been hiring posters it might cause some unrest. Why should anyone else get paid when they are contributing information for free?
  • Paid forum posters cheapens the idea of a community. Much like you don’t pay your friends to hang around with you, you should avoid doing the same with forum posters. Instead concentrating on building relationships on your board.

I still have no real interest in hiring posters. I doubt that’ll change any time in the future, unless I become really desperate.

Back To Square One With Adsense. Zero Earnings!

by Matt on , under Affiliate Programs, My Earnings

my_adsense_earnings.jpg

I haven’t seen something like this for a long time. I took this screenshot just a minute ago and it’s kind of sad in a way, but inspiring in another. I’m delighted that I got rid of those 3 sites as they’ve invigorated my affiliate marketing efforts. I’d like to be back to earning $8-10 a day in around two months and then double it shortly after.

I forgot to mention that I acquired mykewlspace.com last night for $400. It’s a PR5 Myspace resources site with a lot of potential. I wanted to create something similar with blogcram but it just didn’t work. I think I’ll adapt its layout for this though. I’m looking forward to making it and Implicit Gaming a success.

And on that note my stomach’s rumbling and it’s just about time for supper.

Chatpsp.com bought, Meaningofadream.com sold.

by Matt on , under My Earnings

Meaningofadream went for $210 in the end, which was a fair enough price. When I started it back in April I had serious doubts that I’d make back my original $100 investment in the copywriter but it turns out I’ve tripled my money. I’m delighted!

I’m now going to use Wordtracker to find a tight dream related niche. After that I’ll move on to Rentacoder and put up an advertisement requesting a copywriter. I think I’ll pay $10 an article for this one. Now that I think about it might be better to band the articles into different categories like so.

6 x 300 word articles at $5
6 x 500 word articles at $10
6 x 700 word articles at $15

Or something similar anyway.

I’ll have a forum on this one too. I’m becoming overly fond of them (as evidenced by my purchase of chatpsp.com). Where do I go from here? I’m thinking about selling some of the sites I made during the 50 sites in 50 days binge. The only thing is most of those websites will struggle to make $75. I might be better off developing them. I’ll have a think about it tonight. I don’t want to get too carried away.

I’m falling in love with Implicit Gaming. I need a life.

Sunday Bloody Sunday.

by Matt on , under Ramblings

I’ve spent much of today trying to introduce new features into the Implicit Gaming forums. The coolest thing so far has to be the ibProArcade system which allows members to play flash games for various rewards. I’m hoping that it makes the forum a little more sticky. We’ll see how it goes.

Wrote an article this morning on Neopets and submitted it over on ezineArticles. The review time of 2-7 days is a bit frustrating if you’re an impatient sod like me!

I’ve also been tidying up the forums – moving some of the less popular forums into categories which should make the board look a little busier than it is. The forums are now visible to guests too which should help with getting the site into Google. On that note, I think I’ll have a look into buying some links over on Digitalpoint later on tonight.

Still got around $150 to spend of the punkhairstyles.info so I’ll be looking into buying 1 or 2 smaller websites in the meantime.

I’m thinking of selling Meaning of a Dream. I want to use the money to build a more specific site on dreaming and perhaps integrate a forum into it. I’ll try to get the listing up sometime tonight.

One of the Better Pieces of Spam I’ve Received

by Matt on , under Ramblings

I think I’ve finally found someone with more issues than me! Surely if this poor sod needs money urgently he/she wouldn’t be employing ineffective Black Hat SEO techniques? It just stands to reason that if you want to earn some moohlah you actually put a bit of thought into it otherwise you are just effectively pissing into the wind.

After much thought (about 5 seconds worth) I deleted the message. It was a nice try. Maybe someone can drop masitakillah a line and offer some advice on how to market sites properly?

A Busy Day At The Office (Well At Least For Me)

by Matt on , under Web Development

Today, I managed to sell the pairing of emohairstyles.info and punkhairstyles.info for $1000 which I was quite pleased with all in all. No sooner had I received the cash when I invested $760 of it straight back into acquiring Implicit Gaming forums ($610 for the forums themselves and $150 for the Invision Board licence).

It’s a bit of a deal all in all. Earlier today I’d have taken the direct swap of Implicit Gaming for my two hairstyle websites. To have over $200 left over is just a bit of a bonus.

I guess there is going to be a bit of a learning curve with trying to administer the forums correctly. I’m confident though that I can make the inital investment back.

I’m not sure what exactly I’m going to do with the other $200. Would it be worth acquiring a static content site? Or could I use it to promote implicitgaming and another new forum?

Answers on a postcard to……….

I do feel a little weird at the minute. I went to bed 2 hours ago after a documentary on BBC about the Beatles and out of nowhere – I just sat bolt upright a few minutes ago. I, Ladies and Gentlemen may well be losing the plot quickly.
